The Sainik Schools system in India was established with the noble aim of rectifying the regional and class imbalances that existed in the Officer cadre of the Indian Military. These schools are managed by the Sainik Schools Society under the Ministry of Defence and aim to prepare students mentally and physically for entry into the National Defence Academy and Indian Naval Academy. The schools follow the CBSE curriculum and aim to provide a well-rounded education to students while also preparing them for their future careers in the military. The MoD provides annual funding and officers in key roles, while state governments provide the land, infrastructure, and other necessary employees. With the establishment of 100 more Sainik Schools in public-private partnership mode, this system is set to grow and contribute even more to the Officer cadet pool of the NDA and INA.
The admission policy caters to students from diverse backgrounds, including SC/ST, the domicile of the respective states, and the wards of Armed Forces employees and ex-servicemen, making it an inclusive and diverse educational institution.

Sainik School Fees Structure
Sainik Schools provide an excellent educational opportunity for students who aspire to join the National Defence Academy and Indian Naval Academy. While the tuition fee for the year 2019-2020 was Rs. 79,860, it is important to note that the fee structure may change from time to time as per the directions of the Board of Governors, Sainik School Society, New Delhi. Full-paying students are required to pay the school fees as prescribed, which enables the school to provide high-quality education and facilities to its students.
Sainik Schools offer a rigorous and challenging curriculum that not only prepares students for the military but also instills in them values such as discipline, leadership, and teamwork. Yearly Basis Amount – Rs. 79,860/- (due on 10th June)
Half Yearly Amount – Rs. 40,030/- (due on 10th June and 10th Nov)
Sainik Schools are institutions that aim to provide quality education to cadets, preparing them for a career in the armed forces. The fees for these schools are subject to revision every year, as directed by the Board of Governors of the Sainik School Society in New Delhi. Parents or guardians of cadets are required to pay the revised fees and clothing charges as and when they are increased. Failure to do so within one week of the due date may result in the expulsion of the cadet.
The admission process for Sainik Schools is highly competitive, and aspiring candidates must appear for the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination (AISSEE) to be considered. The application fee is Rs. 400 for the General and Defence categories and Rs. 250 for SC/ST categories.
The eligibility criteria for admission to Sainik Schools vary based on the class. Boys aged between 10 and 12 years as of March 31, 2022, and studying in the fifth standard are eligible for admission to class VI. Boys aged between 13 and 15 years, and studying in the eighth standard are eligible for admission to class IX. The written exam carries a weightage of 300 marks for class VI and 400 marks for class IX, and the merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained by the candidates in the qualifying exam.
